Turn Your PDF Into a Word Document
Convert text-based PDF content into a DOCX document when selectable text can be recognized. The result is best for normal paragraphs and headings, not for scanned or heavily image-driven files.
-
DOCX output when text is extractable
-
Paragraphs and headings reconstructed where possible
-
Basic structural reconstruction with limitations
-
Simple download workflow for supported files
Keep Your Document Formatting
Layout reconstruction is best when the source PDF contains selectable text and a relatively clean structure. Complex multi-column pages, image-heavy layouts, and scanned content may need OCR or manual review.
-
Reconstructed headings and paragraphs
-
Basic alignment and spacing where possible
-
Images and simple table structures when detected
-
Reduced fidelity for scanned or complex files
Maintain the Original Page Flow
The converter keeps page order when possible, but it does not guarantee pixel-perfect reconstruction for every PDF layout. Complex tables, columns, and scanned pages often need cleanup after export.
-
Page order preserved when text is detected
-
Portrait and landscape handling according to source PDF
-
Multi-page documents supported when text is available
-
Cleanup may still be needed after conversion

Conversion Boundaries & Engine Limitations
ScanPDF converts native vector documents into editable DOCX files. Understanding our technical boundaries ensures the best outcome:
No OCR / Scanned PDFs
PDFs created entirely from scanned images or photos without selectable text cannot be processed. Server-side Optical Character Recognition is not included.
Reflow vs Fixed Coordinates
PDFs store text as absolute coordinates. Our engine reconstructs these into flowable Word paragraphs, which can cause slight wrapping shifts in multi-column designs.
Font Substitution
Embedded subset fonts without standard character encodings will be replaced with standard Word system fonts like Calibri or Arial.
Technical Questions & Answers
Verified answers regarding PDF-to-Word document reconstruction.
Can ScanPDF convert scanned PDFs or photos of documents into Word?
No. ScanPDF requires PDFs with real selectable digital text. Scanned documents or image-only snapshots do not contain character data and require Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which is not supported in this pipeline.
Why do some paragraphs or tables look slightly shifted in Word?
PDF files fix characters to exact points on a static page, whereas Microsoft Word uses flowable paragraphs and dynamic margins. Converting complex magazine-style column layouts or non-standard tables occasionally requires slight manual margin adjustment in Word.
Will I be able to edit text, change fonts, and delete sections in the converted Word file?
Yes. The resulting document is a standard, fully editable .docx file compatible with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, and LibreOffice Writer.
Are password-protected PDF documents supported?
Encrypted files cannot be converted because server engines cannot bypass PDF security restrictions. Unlock the document in your PDF reader and save an unencrypted copy before uploading.
